My research focuses on computer vision and deep learning, particularly in unsupervised object discovery and wildlife image classification for ecological studies. I also investigate the application of artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and digital technologies to advance scientific research, environmental analysis, and tourism innovation.
I was born in Santa Fe, Argentina. I taught myself to code at 12, before internet, and couldn't stop.
I sold my first software at 15 and registered my first (and only) patent at 16. Later I realized open source beats patents.
Before leaving Santa Fe, I studied Computer Science and Arts, and worked on social software projects (now known as digital citizen science)
for NGOs across Latin America, based at Fundación Proteger and supported by Fundación Avina.
With my wife we went to Ushuaia in 2007, where I grew both academically and professionally, finishing my Computer Science degree at the National University of
Patagonia San Juan Bosco (which later became the University of Tierra del Fuego).
In 2015, we moved to Girona, Spain, to do my MSc in Smart Cities at the University of Girona,
where I explored urban informatics, urban data science, and the role of technology in modern cities.
Back in Ushuaia in 2016, I co-founded Panalsoft, a small company working at the intersection of tourism, local governments, nature,
technology, and people. Panalsoft is still active, and I'm now a passive partner.
Around that time, I also started teaching at the University of Tierra del Fuego, where I'm now an
Associate Professor in Software Development and Parallel Computing.
I began my PhD in Deep Learning for Computer Vision in 2021 at
the University of Barcelona, supervised by Prof. Petia Radeva and co-supervised by Dr. Estefania Talavera from the University of Twente, Netherlands.
In 2023, with two kids, we moved to Austria, where I joined ISTA (Institute of Science and Technology Austria) as a software engineer,
working in an international research environment full of talented people.
The future? The future is already here! Just enjoy the ride.
